Resettlement Worker

Join Leeds City Council's dedicated Resettlement Team, providing crucial support and advice to refugees under the Afghanistan Resettlement Programme (ARP). This role is instrumental in helping individuals transition into life in the UK, ensuring they have access to necessary services and support to integrate successfully into the community.

• Create a safe and welcoming environment for refugees, ensuring the service meets all statutory and contractual requirements.
• Conduct initial assessments for new arrivals, making timely referrals and ensuring access to essential NHS services such as GPs, dentists, and opticians.
• Assist refugees in understanding and navigating UK systems, including financial support systems with the DWP, and help in obtaining National Insurance Numbers and bank accounts.
• Collaborate with various organisations to deliver cross-service projects aimed at achieving positive outcomes for the refugees.
• Use interpreters effectively, assessing the need for interpretation and providing clear, translated information to residents.
• Maintain accurate records of client information, actions taken, and advice given, and act as a liaison point between local and central government to escalate issues.

• Proven ability to communicate complex information to potentially distressed clients.
• Excellent listening skills and the capacity to empathise while handling sensitive information.
• Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
• Competent IT skills, including Excel, word processing, and email.
• Effective conflict management and ability to manage own workload while adapting to changing circumstances.
