Residential Practitioner Location: Bradford Client: City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council Sector: Children’s Residential Services Salary: £15.66 per hour (Umbrella) Contract Type: Temporary (3 months) Hours: Full time (37 hours per week) - Shift work including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins. Role Overview This role contributes to the success of the City of Bradford’s residential services by supporting the delivery of high-quality care in line with Council policies. The postholder will support the home’s Statement of Purpose, focusing on achieving positive outcomes for children and striving for an Ofsted rating of “Good” or better. Key Duties May Include
Acting as key worker for individual children, contributing to care planning, behaviour management plans, risk assessments, and health plans.
Maintaining up-to-date and accurate records for each child.
Meeting the physical and emotional needs of children, taking account of cultural, religious, linguistic, and dietary requirements.
Supporting and mentoring trainee residential practitioners.
Administering medication according to departmental policies.
Maintaining confidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act.
Participating in regular training to maintain mandatory qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 24-hour care to a group of young people, some of whom may have learning disabilities, autism, or a history of trauma.
Work shifts including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Assist children with personal care and hygiene, prepare meals, and carry out household tasks.
Engage in physical and recreational activities with children.
Handle petty cash and amenity funds for children’s activities.
Escort children to appointments, school, and external events.
Participate in residential trips and overnight stays when required.
Maintain effective communication (written, verbal, electronic) and collaborate with professionals, families, and the wider community.

Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Workforce or equivalent (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care)
Degree in Childhood Studies, Social Work, or Youth Work
Experience in a residential care setting is essential
Experience supporting children with complex needs is desirable.
Enhanced DBS (CRB) check
Warner Process clearance
Occupational Health check
Must be mobile and able to travel across the district as required
