Job Description - Security Guard

Security Guard
  • Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour paye
  • Location: Oldham Council
  • Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (6 months)

Oldham Council are looking for a dedicated Security Guard for a full-time position to work in a busy housing options department, six-month temporary contract. The role involves guarding and patrolling various designated areas, including public buildings and council properties, to ensure their security and safety. This position requires a valid SIA Badge and is ideal for individuals committed to maintaining high security standards and public safety.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Guard and patrol designated areas to prevent unauthorised entry, damage, and theft.
  • Respond to alarms and deter crime against Oldham Council premises and partner-designated property.
  • Deal with and liaise with the public, council staff, emergency services, and internal and external contractors.
  • Maintain a security presence and perform risk assessments to mitigate potential threats to colleagues, partners, and the public.
  • Work assigned shifts to provide adequate coverage and maintain accurate reports and shift logs.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality systems to ensure service responsiveness and efficiency in accordance with the Council’s Customer Care Policy.
  • Carry out security duties as directed, including routine patrolling, alarm response, and dynamic risk assessment.
  • Maintain contact with the Council’s Control Room, Supervisors, and management to ensure coordinated operations.
  • Respond to all alarm activations, reset alarms as required, and keep accurate written records of all incidents.
  • Utilize and maintain body cameras to capture video footage for evidential purposes.
  • Be responsible for the management of site/premises keys and documents.
  • Lock and unlock premises as per Service Level Agreements and maintain key logs and key management systems.
  • If directed, drive designated vehicles in accordance with the Council’s Code of Practice and maintain a logged record of all journeys.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Must have a valid SIA Badge.
  • Experience in a security role, preferably in a public sector or similar environment.
  • Ability to perform dynamic risk assessments and respond effectively to security incidents.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Capable of maintaining detailed and accurate reports.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts as part of a rota.
