Job Opportunity: Security Guard - Pembroke Library

Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour
Contract: Temporary, Ongoing
Location: Pembroke Library

Are you calm under pressure, confident in working with young people, and passionate about maintaining a safe and welcoming space? We’re looking for a reliable Security Guard to join the team at Pembroke Library.

This isn’t your typical security role. You'll be working in a community-focused environment, helping to ensure the library remains a safe, respectful place—particularly during busy periods when young people gather.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and manage anti-social behaviour, particularly from young visitors

• De-escalate situations calmly and effectively

• Build positive relationships with young people using the library

• Encourage appropriate use of the space without resorting to exclusion

• Ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere for all library users

Working Hours:

During Term Time:

• Monday, Wednesday & Thursday: 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

• Tuesday: 3:30 PM - 7:00 PM

• Friday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

• Saturday: 11:30 AM - 5:00 PM (with a 30-minute break)

During School Holidays:

• Monday to Saturday: 11:30 AM - 5:00 PM (with a 30-minute break)

• Tuesday extended to 7:00 PM

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience working with children and young people

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Confidence in diffusing challenging situations with empathy

• A proactive and friendly approach

• Previous security experience preferred, but especially suited to those used to community or youth settings
