Job Description - SEMH Support Assistant

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary & Secondary

Location: South East London

Salary: £100 - £115 per day

Start Date: ASAP

School Type: Primary & Secondary

Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people?

Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

A vibrant and inclusive Primary & Secondary School in South East London, in partnership with Remedy Education, is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with resilience, compassion, and a strong desire to help students overcome barriers to learning.

Why This Role?

  • Work across both primary and secondary age groups, giving you a varied and rewarding experience.
  • Join a supportive and specialist team, including teachers, SENCOs, and therapists, all dedicated to student success.
  • Be part of a nurturing school that prioritises mental well-being and personal growth as much as academic achievement.

Your Role as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH and additional learning needs.
  • Assist in the classroom and specialist provision, offering personalised strategies to help students manage their emotions and behaviours.
  • Support students in developing essential life skills such as cooking, travel training, and social interactions.
  • Help create a safe and structured learning environment where students feel valued and understood.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to implement tailored learning plans and behaviour strategies.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children and young people with SEMH needs, either in a school, care, or support setting.
  • A calm, confident, and resilient approach to supporting students with challenging behaviour.
  • A passion for making a difference and helping students build confidence, independence, and self-esteem.
  • The ability to adapt to different age groups, from primary to secondary students.
  • Relevant Childcare Training or Equivalent Qualifications is desirable but not essential.

What's in It for You?

  • Competitive daily rates (PAYE) - based on experience and qualifications.
  • Guaranteed pay scheme (subject to availability).
  • Ongoing professional development and CPD training to help you progress in your career.
  • Dedicated support from an experienced consultant at Remedy Education.
  • The chance to gain experience in both primary and secondary education, expanding your skills and opportunities.
  • Pension contributions for long-term financial security.
