SEMH Teaching Assistant

Hays Education is looking for a Behaviour Teaching Assistant who specialises in Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) issues to work in a provision in Northampton for pupils who are unable to access mainstream education. This is a term-time only position to start in September 2025. If you have experience supporting vulnerable young people - we'd love to hear from you.

Your new school
You'll be working in an SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) Secondary School in Towcester for young people aged 11-18 with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties who have not been able to settle happily into mainstream provision. The school is a growing school, currently with over 63 students. The school has a vocational hub provision on site as well as following the National Curriculum, which enables it's students to develop their skills in an area they are passionate in such as Motor Vehicle Studies, Construction, Hair and Beautyand Engineering.

Your new role
In your new job as a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you'll mentor pupils throughout their school day: from managing behaviour in the classroom to supporting during transition times. You'll have the privilege of being a positive role model for pupils and be able to offer 1:1 support for individuals who need greater guidance. The pupils you support will have a range of additional needs including SEMH, ASD and ADHD to manage their behaviour. By working with Hays, you'll have access to both part-time and full-time opportunities in SEND and mainstream schools across Northamptonshire. What you need to succeed
To succeed in your new job, you'll have experience working with vulnerable young people, ideally in an educational setting or as a mentor/coach. You're someone who thrives in challenging environments and you enjoy adapting to new situations. You'll have supported with young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASD) and or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Most importantly, you'll be confident stepping into a new school andready to support pupils with a range of needs.
