SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Hourly Rate: £14.18
  • Location: Nelson
  • Job Type: Starting September 2025
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.30-15.30

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 child with Autism. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a difference in children’s lives and has experience working with special educational needs. The position is based in Burnley and includes working in the Breakfast Club, with no challenging behaviour involved.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a Year 1 child with Autism, ensuring they are engaged and making progress.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials tailored to the child’s needs and interests.
  • Facilitate social interactions and help the child develop positive relationships with peers.
  • Support the child during Breakfast Club and throughout the morning school routine.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to monitor the child’s progress and adapt support strategies as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment at all times.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably with children who have special educational needs.
  • Understanding of Autism and how it can affect learning and social interactions.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide the best support for the child.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
