Job Description - SEN Teaching Assistant

SEN Teaching Assistant - Year 4 - Autism Support - Shepherd's Bush - September Start

Are you a caring and committed individual with experience supporting children with special educational needs? A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Shepherd's Bush is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with autism in Year 4, starting September 2025.

Role Overview:

  • Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Autism Support - Year 4)

  • Location: Shepherd's Bush, West London

  • Start Date: September 2025

  • Contract: Full-time, term-time only

  • Salary: Dependent on experience

About the Role:

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support a friendly and intelligent Year 4 pupil with autism. The role will involve adapting learning materials, encouraging positive social interaction, and supporting emotional regulation to help the child engage fully with the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored support and interventions in line with the child's EHCP

  • Assist the pupil with daily learning tasks and classroom routines

  • Promote independence, confidence, and social skills

  • Liaise effectively with teaching staff, external professionals, and parents

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with autism, ideally in a primary school setting

  • Calm, patient, and empathetic nature

  • Ability to use initiative and adapt strategies based on individual needs

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Desirable:

  • Training in areas such as PECS, Makaton, or TEACCH

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3, SEN training, or psychology degree)
