Job Description - Sen Teaching Assistant

SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time, Part-Time & Supply Roles Available

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs? We are currently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to join a highly respected special school in West Yorkshire that caters to students aged 11–19 with a wide range of complex needs.

About the School

This is a Local Authority maintained special school with a long-standing reputation for excellence. It provides education for students with severe, complex, and profound and multiple learning difficulties, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Sensory impairments
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Medical and physical difficulties

All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and the school’s bespoke curriculum is designed to meet individual needs while preparing students for adulthood. The curriculum includes strands such as communication, cognition, independence, emotional wellbeing, and preparation for work and life.

The school has consistently received Outstanding ratings from Ofsted across all areas, including:

  • Sixth form provision

What You’ll Be Doing

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students in their learning and personal development
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to implement EHCP targets
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs where required
  • Encourage independence and social interaction

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young adults with SEN (preferred but not essential)
  • A caring, patient, and resilient nature
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to individual student needs
