Job Description - SEND Teacher

Job Title: SEND Teacher
Pay Rate: £130.00 - £170.00 per day
Location: Birmingham
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Full-time, Term-time)


TEMPORARY VACANCY – Summer Term

About the Role


We are seeking a qualified SEND Teacher to join a specialist educational setting in Birmingham for the Summer term. The successful candidate will support students with complex autism and proactively manage behaviours of concern. This role involves leading a class with 4 Teaching Assistants, ensuring that learners receive high-quality, tailored education in a nurturing environment. The students are working towards Early Learning Goals, with many at P6/P7 level.

The classroom is set up similarly to an EYFS environment, with continuous provision and various learning stations. All students have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) or a Statement of Special Educational Need.

Key Responsibilities


• Lead and support students with complex autism working towards Early Learning Goals
• Supervise and support 4 Teaching Assistants to ensure effective learning delivery
• Implement behaviour management strategies, focusing on resolution and reflection
• Develop and deliver creative, engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of each student
• Provide regular assessment and feedback on student progress
• Contribute to students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Collaborate with other professionals, parents, and carers to support students' development
• Adhere to safeguarding protocols and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development activities

Essential Experience & Skills


• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASC)
• Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies
• Experience working in SEND or early years settings
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and professionals
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
• Excellent communication skills, empathy, and resilience
