Senior Accountant

Service Care Solutions are working alongside Salford City Council who are looking for a Senior Accountant (Capital) to join their team on a temporary contract. Please find a description of the role below.

Role: Senior Accountant (Capital)
Rate: £27-£31 (PAYE exc.) / £31 to £35 (Umbrella) (based on qualifications, expereince and interview performance)
Location: Salford
Working: Full-time, on-site (hybrid following initial induction)
Contract: 3 months on going

Role Overview:

• Support cost control, budget reviews, and identify efficiency opportunities across directorates.
• Develop strong working relationships with service managers and finance colleagues to influence informed decision-making.
• Ensure accuracy of financial records within the general ledger and related systems.
• Prepare, analyse, and interpret financial data for accounts, statutory returns, and performance reporting.
• Maintain robust financial monitoring systems to support capital programme oversight.
• Supervise, support, and review the work of junior finance staff to ensure quality and compliance.
• Proven experience in capital finance and public sector accounting.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Confident communicator with the ability to influence and advise stakeholders.
• Skilled in financial systems and reporting tools.
• Capable of mentoring junior team members and managing competing deadlines.
