Job Description - Senior Administrative Officer

Job Title: Senior Administrative Officer (Ref: LBS-008)
Location: 160 Tooley Street, Southwark Council
Pay Rate: £22 per hour
Hours: 36 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00)
Contract Duration: 21st July 2025 - 13th October 2025
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Category: Admin & Clerical (Agency Workers)

About the Role:

Southwark Council is seeking a highly organised and experienced Senior Administrative Officer to provide professional support to the Director of Communications and Engagement and the Director of HR. This is a fast-paced role requiring someone confident in managing competing priorities, with a proactive and adaptable approach.

As the central point of coordination, you'll oversee diary management, meeting arrangements, and administrative duties while ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the Directors' offices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality PA and administrative support to senior leadership

  • Manage complex and dynamic diaries, appointments, and schedules

  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

  • Liaise effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Draft, prepare and format professional correspondence and reports

  • Ensure smooth implementation of organisational procedures and systems

  • Work independently and use your initiative to support strategic priorities

Candidate Requirements:
  • Proven PA/administrative experience, ideally supporting senior management in a local authority setting

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and diary management tools

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal tactfully with a wide range of people

  • Highly organised, able to manage conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines

  • Confident in making timely decisions and working independently
