Job Description - Senior Business Support Officer

Senior Business Support Officer

We are seeking a Senior Business Support Officer to provide essential support and leadership within our Children and Family Services department. This role is pivotal in ensuring efficient business support services and involves working closely with Service Managers and various internal and external agencies.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide cover and support for equivalent Senior Business Support Officers across all service areas as required.
  • Supervise central and locality-based business support services staff.
  • Lead the oversight and development of business support services, ensuring all support functions and processes are optimally managed.
  • Support Service Managers in overseeing booking systems, rotas, and allocation of work to business support services staff.
  • Oversee and support budget monitoring processes for service budgets.
  • Liaise confidently with a range of internal and external agencies to ensure seamless delivery of services to children and monitor statutory/business critical information.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in taking on additional tasks and prioritize cooperation and support for colleagues.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Staff Management: Assist in recruitment, manage staff supervision, training, and development. Deputise for Business Managers and Senior Business Support Officers as required.
  • Data and Process Management: Supervise data input for Children and Family Services, ensuring compliance with statutory timescales. Lead the development and maintenance of business support services processes.
  • Financial Oversight: Oversee account implementations and closings, authorize ordering and manage P-card administration in line with procedures.
  • Information Management: Ensure all service area information, such as website content and policies, is up-to-date and coordinate across service areas as per requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage responses to Freedom of Information requests and ensure adherence to all policies.
  • Office Management: Ensure robust maintenance and review of office processes/systems and support staff matters and communications with project leads.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a public sector or service-oriented environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in staff management.
  • Excellent organizational and data management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local government procedures is highly advantageous.
