Senior Claims Handler Insurance

Service Care Solutions are working alongside Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council who are looking to recruit a Senior Claims Handler to join their team on a temporary contract.

Role: Senior Claims Handler (Insurance)
Location: Solihull
Rate: £218 to £227 per day (PAYE exc.) / £250 to £260 per day (Umbrella/Ltd)
Contract: 6 months on going
Working: Hybrid, Full time (2 days from home)

Role Overview

• Manage a personal caseload and oversee the claims team dealing with all classes of insurance claims, with an emphasis on personal injury and third-party property damage.
• Ensure claims are handled both in collaboration with insurers and in-house under delegated authority.
• Handle claims in accordance with Civil Procedure Rules, including those submitted via the Claims Portal or traditional methods.
• Oversee small claims court proceedings, particularly for public liability property claims.
• Monitor and manage claim costs and ensure effective financial control.
• Stay up to date with relevant legislation (e.g. Ministry of Justice reforms, Common Law) and ensure team compliance
• Liaise with appointed solicitors regarding claims strategy and management.
• Attend court as necessary, giving instructions to counsel and supporting the legal process.
• Coordinate with council officers, acting as a main point of contact for legal proceedings and documentation.
• Support the day-to-day administration of the council’s insurance programme.
• Assist with insurance tendering processes.
• Manage ad hoc insurance queries from various council directorates.
• Liaise with insurers and brokers to arrange required insurance cover..
• Produce management reports on claims data, risk profiles, and performance metrics.
• Assist in responding to Freedom of Information requests.
• Provide first-line management support and guidance to the claims team.
• Act as a senior decision-maker in the absence of the Insurance Manager.
