Job Description - Senior Housing Solutions Officer

Senior Housing Solutions Officer
  • Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (5 months)
  • Location: Sheffield City Council
  • Pay Rate: £17.09 per hour (PAYE)

Sheffield City Council are looking for a Senior Housing Solutions Officer to join our Housing Advice and Options Service. This role is central to providing tailored housing advice, assessing housing needs, and delivering effective solutions to prevent homelessness. If you have a strong customer focus and are skilled in handling complex cases, we encourage you to apply for this impactful position.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Interview clients, undertake assessments within statutory and policy frameworks, and maintain ongoing support and client contact.
  • Carry out home visits or visits to hospitals and other relevant sites to gather information and progress cases from application to final outcome.
  • Provide information on all available housing, support, and other related services, ensuring positive outcomes for clients using a full range of options.
  • Assist clients in accessing specialist support services as required, such as advocacy services, tenancy support, and city-wide alarms.
  • Interpret and support clients through the Council’s Lettings Policy, including assistance with the bidding process.
  • Liaise with other statutory and voluntary sector organisations, and arrange supported and interim accommodation with the Supported and Temporary Accommodation Team where required.
  • Manage own targets specific to the post and respond to customer queries and/or complaints.
  • Produce and present reports, including making recommendations on any aspect of the Housing Solutions Service.
  • Advise other Council officers on complex areas of housing law and assist with the provision of training for other internal and external staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer-focused service in a housing solutions context.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, capable of working well on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Resilient and hardworking, with a keenness to learn and support Housing Solutions Officers with complex cases.
  • Experience in mentoring staff and developing links with partners across the Housing Solutions Service.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and organize work, with a solid ‘customer first’ approach.
  • Full UK driving licence is desirable.
