Interim Senior Financial Accountant

Based in London, hybrid

Length: 3 months initially

We are working with a London-based Local Authority to recruit an interim Senior Financial Accountant, to play a critical role in delivering high-quality financial planning and advice that supports the council’s long-term strategy and service delivery objectives.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Deliver strategic financial planning, including corporate budget monitoring and the development of the Medium-Term Financial Strategy
• Provide clear and consistent financial advice to members, directors, and service managers
• Support the preparation of complex financial models, forecasts, and data analysis for corporate and service-level planning
• Contribute to the review and development of financial policies, procedures, and control frameworks
• Play a lead role in the interpretation and implementation of Government funding announcements
• Complete complex statutory returns and grant claims, ensuring audit readiness
• Work collaboratively across departments to respond to financial challenges with effective and innovative solutions

Experience and knowledge required:

• Must be part-qualified
• Proven experience in a local authority carrying out financial planning, budgeting, and financial modelling
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Experience in staff supervision or team leadership
