Senior Probation Officer

Red Snapper Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of the Probation Service for an experienced Senior Probation Officer (SPO) to join the team at Southwark PDU. This is a critical operational leadership role, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week on-site presence, providing direct supervision and support to front line probation staff.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the effective management of high-risk cases, staff development, and quality assurance of service delivery.

Location: Southwark PDU, 223/227 Borough High Street, Greater London, SE1 1JD
Contract: Temporary (Minimum 3 Months - Possibility of Extension)
Hours: Full Time, 37 Hours per Week, at least 4 days a week on site
Pay Rate: £26.02 per hour (PAYE) | £34.26 per hour (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide line management and professional supervision to Probation Officers, PSOs, and support staff.
• Oversee risk management for complex and high-risk cases, including MAPPA and recall decisions.
• Ensure compliance with national standards, safeguarding policies, and public protection procedures.
• Drive performance and quality assurance, including the review of reports and assessments.
• Chair risk meetings and contribute to inter-agency work across the criminal justice and safeguarding sectors.
• Support the development of staff, including NQOs, PSOs, and PQiP trainees.
• Act as Duty Manager where required and respond to operational challenges effectively.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Probation Officer with previous experience in a Senior Probation Officer or equivalent leadership role.
• Sound knowledge of risk assessment tools (e.g., OASys) and offender management frameworks.
• Proven ability to manage performance and quality standards within a busy operational setting.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, MAPPA, and public protection protocols.
