Senior Technical Writer

Job Title: Senior Technical Writer / Documentation Architect (6-Month Contract)
Location: Manchester - Occasional office visit
Contract Length: 6 months (with strong potential for extension) Inside IR35
Payrate: £60 - £79 Per hour Umbrella

We're looking for a Senior Technical Writer or Documentation Architect to lead a 6-month transformation program for a large-scale cloud and platform engineering environment. This role goes beyond writing-you'll architect and operationalize a modern documentation system that serves a global tech audience of 3,000+ engineers.

• Bring all documentation together into one easy-to-find, well-organized place
• Review and clean up any outdated, confusing, or duplicate content
• Create clear standards and templates so all documentation looks and feels consistent
• Set up tools and dashboards (like Grafana) to track how well the documentation is performing and when it needs updates
• Define key goals and deadlines for keeping content accurate and up to date
• Make sure every part of the documentation has an owner who is responsible for keeping it maintained
• Use AI tools where helpful to check the quality of content and suggest improvements automatically
• Work closely with teams across the UK, Europe, and India including engineers, product managers, and leadership

• Git, Confluence, Jira
• Documentation feedback tools and observability dashboards
• Enterprise documentation systems
• Exposure to cloud platforms and DevOps environments
• Distributed, cross-functional teams

• Proven experience with enterprise-level technical documentation systems
• Strong understanding of documentation structure, lifecycle, and automation
• Confident working across technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with documentation tooling and process standardization
• Familiarity with cloud/DevOps environments (bonus, not mandatory)
• Comfortable driving cultural change around documentation practices.
