Job Description - Social Care Deputy Team Manager

4 months contract with a local authority

Job Purpose

To support the Team Manager in leading and managing a Family Support Team focused on child protection and court work. The Deputy Team Manager will ensure high-quality service delivery, safeguarding children and young people, and promoting their welfare in line with statutory responsibilities and best practice.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

Assist the Team Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the team.

Supervise and support social workers and other staff in complex child protection and court cases.

Ensure timely and effective assessments, interventions, and care planning.

Monitor performance and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures.

Attend and contribute to strategy meetings, case conferences, and court proceedings.

Provide reflective supervision and promote continuous professional development.

Support the implementation of service improvements and practice development.

Essential Experience Required

Significant post-qualification experience in children’s social care, particularly in child protection and court work.

Proven experience of supervising or mentoring staff.

Strong understanding of statutory frameworks, including the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and Public Law Outline (PLO).

Essential Qualification Required

Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.

Registration with Social Work England.

Additional Information

Working hours: 37 hours per week
