Job Description - Social Care Deputy Team Manager




4 months contract with a local authority







Job Purpose



  • To support the Team Manager in leading and managing a Family Support Team focused on child protection and court work. The Deputy Team Manager will ensure high-quality service delivery, safeguarding children and young people, and promoting their welfare in line with statutory responsibilities and best practice.







Key Duties/Accountabilities




  • Assist the Team Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the team.

  • Supervise and support social workers and other staff in complex child protection and court cases.

  • Ensure timely and effective assessments, interventions, and care planning.

  • Monitor performance and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures.

  • Attend and contribute to strategy meetings, case conferences, and court proceedings.

  • Provide reflective supervision and promote continuous professional development.

  • Support the implementation of service improvements and practice development.




Essential Experience Required




  • Significant post-qualification experience in children’s social care, particularly in child protection and court work.

  • Proven experience of supervising or mentoring staff.

  • Strong understanding of statutory frameworks, including the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and Public Law Outline (PLO).




Essential Qualification Required




  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.

  • Registration with Social Work England.




Additional Information




  • Working hours: 37 hours per week
