Job Description

Are you a qualified Solicitor with a background in criminal law? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy courtroom advocacy? We are currently recruiting for a Solicitor to join the Legal Services team supporting the local police force in Moston.

This is a temporary role for an initial 6-month period, with a strong likelihood of extension. The role is ideal for someone with criminal law experience, particularly in Magistrates’ and Family Courts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the Force in Magistrates’ Court for civil orders (e.g., ASBOs, closure orders) several days per week.
  • Attend Family Court to manage disclosure applications and provide legal advice.
  • Conduct legal research and present findings to police officers.
  • Build and manage legal files efficiently.
  • Provide legal advice on police powers, civil liability, and related matters.
  • Liaise with external legal professionals and monitor service quality.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (essential).
  • Strong advocacy experience in Magistrates’ and/or Family Courts.
  • Background in criminal law and/or civil litigation.
  • Excellent legal research and communication skills.
  • Strong file management and organisational abilities.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).

Desirable Experience

  • Previous work with a police force or public sector legal team.
  • Knowledge of police-related legislation (e.g., PACE, POCA, ASB legislation).
  • Familiarity with the Human Rights Act (HRA).
