Special School Support Assistant - Portsmouth

Prospero Teaching is looking for caring and committed Special School Support Assistants to join a specialist SEN school in Portsmouth this September 2025.

This welcoming school supports primary-aged children with autism, speech and language needs, and wider communication challenges. As a support assistant, you'll play a key role in helping pupils thrive-whether working one-on-one or in small groups-using tools like Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to build confidence and encourage learning.

• Supporting children's development through personalised learning activities

• Encouraging social skills, independence, and self-esteem in a nurturing environment

• Helping create calm, structured routines to support emotional well-being

• Collaborating with teachers to deliver creative, engaging lessons

• Monitoring progress and contributing to assessments

• Offering additional support to ensure every child feels safe, valued, and understood

• Assisting with personal care routines respectfully and sensitively

• Promoting safeguarding and confidentiality at all times

We'd love to hear from you if you:

• Have experience supporting SEN pupils in a school setting (primary preferred)

• Are passionate about child welfare and proactive in safeguarding

• Bring patience, positivity, and a warm sense of humour to your role

• Understand SEN needs and communication tools like Makaton or PECS

• Are a collaborative team player with strong communication skills

• Hold solid literacy, numeracy, and IT skills

• Location: Portsmouth

• Role: Special School Support Assistant

• Start Date: September 2025

• Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 AM - 15:30 PM (part-time considered)

• Pay: From £13.96 per hour

• Access to accredited CPD courses including safeguarding and behaviour management

• Ongoing support from our in-house Training and Development Team
