Sports Coach

Are you a dynamic and enthusiastic Sports Coach with a passion for using sport to engage and support primary school students, particularly those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) requiring behaviour support? An exciting and unique opportunity awaits you at this inner city Nottingham school.

We are seeking a motivated Sports Coach who can combine their coaching expertise with skills in behaviour management to provide targeted 1:1 and small group support to students with specific behavioural needs outlined in their EHCPs/IEPs. You will play a key role in using sport as a tool for positive engagement, skill development, and improved behaviour.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging and inclusive sports coaching sessions to secondary school students, adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities, particularly those with EHCPs/IEPs.
• Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support to identified students during sports activities and potentially within other school settings, following the guidelines of their EHCP/IEP.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and interventions within a sporting context.
• Use sport as a positive outlet to promote self-regulation, teamwork, communication, and resilience in students with behavioural challenges.
• Work closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and other support staff to understand individual student needs and contribute to the implementation of their EHCP/IEP targets.
• Develop and adapt sporting activities to ensure full participation and engagement of students with diverse needs.
• Act as a positive role model, promoting positive behaviour and a supportive environment within sporting activities.
• Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of student progress and the effectiveness of behaviour support strategies within the sports context.
• Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies as required.
• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students during sporting activities.

Requirements:

• Relevant sports coaching qualifications (e.g., National Governing Body awards).
• Experience of coaching young people in a variety of sports.
• Understanding of the principles of behaviour management and strategies for supporting students with behavioural challenges.
• Experience of working with children or young people with SEN, ideally including those with EHCPs and IEPs.
• Ability to adapt coaching techniques and activities to meet individual needs.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
• Right to work in the UK.

Desirable (Optional):

• Specific training or experience in using sport as a therapeutic or behavioural intervention.
• Experience of working within a school setting.
• Knowledge of specific behavioural strategies (e.g., Positive Behaviour Support).
• First Aid certification.
