Job Description - Supervised Contact Worker

Job Title: Social Care Officer
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: Grade N06
Contract Type: Full Time / Permanent
Service Area: Family Time Service

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Care Officer to support our Social Work Teams in delivering high-quality services that make a real difference to the lives of children, young people, and their families. Based within the Family Time Service, you will play a vital role in ensuring consistent, integrated support in accordance with statutory frameworks and safeguarding practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Social Work Teams in managing casework, contributing to improved outcomes for children and families.

  • Provide accurate information and written reports for meetings, conferences, and court proceedings.

  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, promptly reporting concerns to the Family Time Supervisor.

  • Maintain accurate electronic and written records in line with organisational policy.

  • Build effective working relationships with families, external agencies, and colleagues.

  • Administer petty cash in accordance with financial procedures.

  • Participate in meetings and contribute to multi-agency approaches.

  • Support the Council's Equality Policy and adhere to health and safety practices.

About You
You will be an experienced and empathetic professional who understands the complexities of working with children and families, including those affected by mental health or substance misuse issues. You should be calm under pressure, flexible in your approach, and confident in your ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with children, young people, carers, and families.

  • Experience supporting adults with mental health or substance misuse issues.

  • Sound understanding of the Children Act 1989 and child development.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and practices.

  • Excellent recording and report writing skills using digital systems.

  • Able to build strong relationships and deal with sensitive situations with discretion.

  • Full driving licence and access to personal transport.
