Council Tax Assessment Officer

• Job Type: Full-time, Temporary Contract
• Location: Barnsley S70
• Salary: £13.26 PAYE per hour (Umbrella rate available)

We are seeking an experienced Council Tax Assessment Officer to join our Revenues team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate assessment, maintenance, and administration of Council Tax accounts, ensuring correct billing and application of discounts, exemptions, and reliefs in accordance with current legislation.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Maintain and update Council Tax records accurately and efficiently.
• Assess and apply discounts, exemptions, and reliefs to Council Tax accounts.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and local authority policies.
• Investigate and resolve queries from residents and stakeholders regarding Council Tax assessments.
• Liaise with internal departments and external agencies as required.
• Deliver excellent customer service through various communication channels.
• Use Academy and Enterprise systems to manage Council Tax data and workflows.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in Council Tax assessment and administration.
• Strong working knowledge of Council Tax legislation and regulations.
• Proficiency in using Academy and Enterprise systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment.
• Knowledge of housing benefits or other related services.
