Teaching Assistant -Hospital School Setting
Location: Beckenham and Southwark, London
Salary: £100 per day min
Contract: Full-time, term-time only
Working Hours: 8:45am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, term-time only
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with complex mental health needs? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist hospital school that provides high-quality education for pupils aged 11-19 undergoing psychiatric treatment as inpatients or day patients.
Our school operates across two London sites in Beckenham and Southwark, with six departments directly connected to hospital services. All our students have significant mental health challenges requiring hospital admission, and their education is tailored to meet individual needs in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
Teaching Assistant role:
Teaching Assistant responsibilities:
Supporting teachers in preparing classrooms and tidying at the end of sessions
Creating engaging displays of student work and themed materials
Providing in-class assistance to students with a wide range of needs
Offering one-to-one interventions (e.g. reading, numeracy support, educational games) as directed by teaching staff
Supporting students experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties
Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment
Liaising with hospital staff to ensure student wellbeing and appropriate support
£100 per day pay rate
Small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios
A supportive team environment and access to multidisciplinary expertise
Ongoing professional development in areas such as mental health, SEND, and trauma-informed practice

We're seeking candidates who are:
Degree-qualified (education, psychology, or related field preferred)
Compassionate, calm, and resilient
Able to build trust and rapport with vulnerable young people
Adaptable and comfortable in a healthcare-education setting
Strong team players with excellent communication skills
Experience in special education, mental health, or hospital-based settings is desirable but not essential-we're looking for the right mindset and a willingness to learn.
