Job Description - Teaching Assistant

£90- £105 per day PAYE

SANZA Teaching Agency are currently recruiting on behalf of a lovely 3-form entry primary school in Barking & Dagenham. They are looking for teaching assistants to join their vibrant school community.

The school is a mainstream primary school with an Additional Recourse Provision (ARP) for students that have a diagnosis of Autism. There are 6- 8 students per class ranging from year 1 to year 6.

More information:

  • The roles are full-time 5 days per week (term time only)
  • Trials will be held week commencing 1st September, with immediate start if successful at the trial
  • 1 year contract until July 2026

As a teaching assistant supporting with Autism, you will:

  • Support the development of communication skills using alternative communication methods
  • Support with the development of speech and language
  • Promote an inclusive and encouraging learning environment that supports the student's social interaction and integration with peers
  • Implement positive behaviour support plans and strategies agreed with SENCOs and therapists
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviours safely and calmly
  • Help deliver differentiated lessons and activities tailored to pupils with Autism
  • Encourage and model effective communication, helping students initiate and respond appropriately

About you:

  • Relevant experience supporting children with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or relevant special educational needs
  • Understanding of pre-verbal communication methods and strategies
  • Knowledge with challenging behaviour, including behaviour management techniques and the ability to adapt them to meet individual needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special needs
