Teaching Assistant - SEN School (Temporary)

Location: Stockport
Salary: £95 - £115 per day
Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary (with the potential to become permanent)
Start Date: September 2025

Your new company

Hays Education are working in partnership with a small, nurturing residential SEN school located in the Stockport area. The school supports children aged 7-16 with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. The school offers a therapeutic and inclusive environment where every pupil is supported to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Your new role

This is a temporary Teaching Assistant position starting in September 2025, with the potential to become permanent. You will work closely with pupils who have complex needs, supporting their learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing. The role involves working both in the classroom and in residential settings, helping to provide consistency and care throughout the school day. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Assisting with lesson delivery and classroom routines
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Supporting off-site activities and enrichment sessions
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and residential staff

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly autism and SEMH
  • A calm, empathetic and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine interest in supporting vulnerable learners
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply through Hays)
