Role Purpose
 

To maintain and enhance professional development and academic quality within the teaching centre, the role focuses on managing in-house teacher development programmes and providing ongoing support to ensure continuous improvement. It also promotes and upholds high standards of teaching, enabling effective learning and fostering a culture of excellence among educators.

In addition, the role is committed to providing learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience. It further contributes to the broader aims of the British Council by supporting its cultural relations mission and strengthening its impact within the community.

Main accountabilities:

Teaching Quality and Service Delivery: The role focuses on supporting and managing online teachers to deliver high-quality English language teaching. This includes leading the selection and recruitment of teachers, providing academic management in line with performance guidelines, and delivering onboarding and product training for new teachers. The role involves coordinating flexible and sponsored courses, creating syllabi, supporting teachers, and monitoring delivery through class observations, teacher reports and assessments. Close collaboration with Sales and Customer Service teams is required to handle academic enquiries and complaints. The post holder also contributes to the Teaching Excellence Action Plan, English Online objectives, and Teaching Centre Performance Reviews, while supporting the Teaching Excellence Lead with wider academic management activities. Although there is no regular teaching timetable, the role requires short-notice cover when needed, with up to 5–7 teaching hours per week on average.

Subject Expertise, Compliance and Professional Development: The role acts as a model of good classroom practice by delivering demonstration lessons and encouraging peer observation. It includes organising and delivering live and asynchronous training for teachers across different time zones, and sharing best practice in online teaching pedagogy. The role also supports safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and SEND initiatives, ensuring British Council global policies are followed and embedded in the English Online classroom culture.

Product Development, Analysis and Leadership: The role contributes to the development and improvement of English Online products by gathering teacher feedback, assessing the pedagogical value of new products and features, and supporting content-related projects with vendors, freelancers and digital teams. It also supports the Content Lead with product development activities as required. The post holder analyses student and client feedback to improve the classroom experience and manages a small team of teachers delivering non-teaching academic activities such as content creation, teacher training, observations and teacher support.

Qualifications and Experience

• University degree ( in any discipline)


• TEFL-I qualification (CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL)


• TEFL-Q qualification (DELTA or Trinity Diploma TESOL)


• 2 years post-diploma, i.e. DELTA/Trinity Diploma TESOL teaching experience to adults (General and Business English and IELTS preparation (800+ hours))


• Knowledge and experience in online teaching and teacher training


• Experience managing EFL teachers remotely


• Experience in lesson and course adaptation and/or development


• Proficient in all areas of the English language: minimum IELTS 8.0 in all skills, or equivalent

Salary and Benefits

• Salary: Annual pay scale between 13,40,000 INR - 24,83,000 INR (depending on qualification and work experience).


• Annual Leave: Annual leave entitlement is 21 working days in a calendar year and 11 Public Holidays each calendar year


• Medical Allowances: Group Medical Insurance policy of INR 500,000 as a family floater amount.

• Location: Delhi 


• Contract Duration: 24 Months


• Contract Hours: The post holder will not have a regular teaching timetable but will be required to substitute at short notice. The number of teaching hours per week may reach 5-7 on average


• Tentative start date: April/May 2026 (depending on the hiring process)


• Work schedule: The post holder will work remotely; the British Council may ask the post holder to come into the office three days a week. The post holder will work a fixed working week, which will include Saturdays and/or Sundays. 


• Local restrictions on employment: Applicants must have the right to work in India. The roles are open for ONLY Indian nationals


• Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders will need to have, or be able to obtain, a valid special work permit issued from the Government of India (GOI) to work in the British High Commission (BHC). BHC will not be able to sponsor work visas or obtain/ assist with the special work permit from GOI. Offers of employment made to OCI cardholders will be conditional upon candidates obtaining a special work permit.
