Technical Food Safety Assistant - Temporary

This FTC Technical Food Safety Assistant role in is based Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Milton Keynes, and requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of food safety protocols, HACCP, supplier verification and technical specification experience within the food industry. The position involves ensuring compliance with safety standards and supporting operational processes to maintain product quality.

Description

• Collaborate with the Technical team to review and approve artwork and packaging specifications.
• Partner with the Technical team to assess and sign off all specification documents.
• Support the Technical team with various ad hoc technical projects and NPD launches.
• Provide assistance with HACCP and SERT-related support activities.
• Work alongside the Lead Developer as a subject matter expert, offering technical insight into products and ingredients across the broader business.
• Coordinate with the Technical Assistant to review, approve, and monitor new suppliers, providing feedback on performance.
• Maintain and approve product specifications, ensuring they are accurate and current. Advise on food safety risks within the supply chain and recommend mitigations.
• Collaborate with Product Development, Marketing, and the Central Team to contribute to the development brand sourcing guidelines.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the end-to-end supply chain, including those responsible for elements of the HACCP plan and prerequisite programs (e.g., maintenance, operations, pest control, cleaning chemicals, etc.).
• Work collaboratively with colleagues involved in sourcing food, packaging, and equipment suppliers.
• Oversee contract management and establish technical KPIs for outsourced food safety or technical functions, as needed.
• Support customer complaint investigations with a focus on quality assurance and food safety compliance.
• Assist in menu sign-off processes to ensure alignment with Natasha's Law requirements.
• Conduct occasional on-site supplier audits to verify compliance with food safety and quality standards.

Profile

An effective Technical Food Safety Assistant should possess the following qualifications and experience:

• A degree in Food Science or a related discipline (or equivalent level of education).
• HACCP Level 4 certification.
• Food Safety Level 3 certification.
• Strong knowledge of UK food safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
• Experience in the food retail, food service, or food manufacturing sectors.
• Proven ability to identify, assess, and resolve food safety issues proactively.
• Experience in supplier verification, auditing, and onboarding processes.
• Familiarity with technical specifications for both new product development (NPD) and packaging approvals.
• A proactive mindset focused on maintaining food safety, legal compliance, and quality assurance across operations.
• Must be able to commute to Milton Keynes HQ Tuesdays & Wednesdays.
