About the Role: Cornwall Council is seeking a highly organised and proactive Transport Officer to join our Transport Coordination Service (TCS) based in Truro. In this key role, you will be responsible for managing the eligibility, coordination, and monitoring of School and Social Care Transport services across a designated geographical area of Cornwall. This role covers over 60% of the TCS’ responsibilities, arranging essential transport services for:
Over 13,000 children and young people, including 2,000 Post-16 students
More than 1,000 children with Special Educational Needs (SEND)
Up to 1,500 adults requiring daily social care transport
Your work will directly support Cornwall's most vulnerable children, young people and adults by ensuring safe, efficient, and economical transport is arranged and maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day passenger transport operations for education and social care users in your area
Determine eligibility and arrange suitable travel for children, young people, and adults
Liaise with service users, families, carers, schools, and internal departments on travel options
Monitor transport contracts and service quality to ensure value for money and safeguarding standards
Resolve transport-related queries and emergencies in a timely and professional manner
Support continuous improvements in service delivery across the wider TCS
Essential Skills & Experience:
Experience in transport coordination, logistics, or a related local government service
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
High attention to detail and ability to manage complex service requirements
Knowledge of education and/or adult social care transport needs is desirable
Ability to prioritise and respond to changing demands in a fast-paced environment
