Transport Officer – Passenger Fleet Operations

Location: Leicestershire
Contract: Full-time, 3-month initial contract
Start Date: ASAP
Hourly Rate: £18.10 (Umbrella)

Please note this role is office based with the expectation of on-site supervision.

To support the effective, efficient, and legally compliant delivery of passenger transport services across Leicestershire, ensuring services meet the needs of residents while maintaining high safety and operational standards.

• Supervise day-to-day operations of Drivers and Driving Assistants to ensure safe and efficient fleet activity

• Maintain strong working relationships with internal departments, schools, parents, carers, contractors, and external stakeholders

• Assist with recruitment, training, performance management, and induction processes for transport staff

• Carry out health & safety risk assessments, accident investigations, and ensure regulatory compliance across transport activities

• Prepare operational reports and contribute to service planning and business performance

• Oversee vehicle inspections and depot compliance with landlord responsibilities and relevant legislation

• Support route planning and optimisation using both manual and ICT-based systems

• Identify income generation opportunities and manage operational costs

• Deputise for the Transport Manager as required

• Knowledge of legislation relevant to passenger transport, including safeguarding and accessibility

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and database systems

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deal tactfully with service users and external partners

• Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities, and maintain high standards of accuracy

• A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

• Enhanced DBS check required due to working with vulnerable individuals
