Tutors Young People at risk of PEX

Are you passionate about helping young people re-engage with learning? Do you have the resilience, creativity, and positivity to make a real difference?

Prospero Teaching are looking for dedicated Tutors to support children and young people aged 5-18 across Southampton and surrounding areas. These learners are at risk of permanent exclusion (PEX) and need tailored, 1:1 support to thrive both academically and emotionally.

As a Tutor you will:

• • Deliver Maths and English sessions tailored to individual needs
  • Support learners in developing positive relationships and de-escalation strategies
  • Help build confidence, routine, and a love for learning
  • Work in homes, community settings, or alternative provision spaces

About you:

• • • • Tutors, teachers, mentors, TAs, Cover Supervisors, or youth workers with experience supporting young people
      • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
      • A calm, consistent, and encouraging approach
      • Ability to work independently and adapt to different learning styles

Position - AP Tutor
Contract or position start date - ASAP
Contract or position end date (if applicable) - N/A
Full time/part-time - Opportunities for both
Hours - 12 Hours per week- for the right candidate, this can be increased to full time with additional tuition opportunities

Essential & Desirable Qualifications:

• • • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within UK schools- ESSENTIAL
    • Trauma-informed and skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies- Desirable

To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:

• Hold right to work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Provide references upon request
• Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
