We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our Specialist Resource Hub, supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a mainstream Secondary school. Managed by Wakefield Council, the hub provides a structured, supportive environment where students can thrive.

What we’re looking for?

  • Have experience, or a passion for working with students with additional needs, especially Autism.
  • Have knowledge or understanding of how to support children with SEN and SEMH
  • Be flexible, proactive and patient
  • Be nurturing in their approach and interventions
  • Be able to communicate effectively within a team
  • Have a background in Education, Care, Social work, Psychology or Drama, as these are very transferable.

You don’t need prior experience in education or working with SEMH & ASD - what we’re really looking for is someone who:

  • Is open to learning about SEMH & ASD and how to support students effectively
  • Can build strong relationships and gain students' trust
  • Is adaptable, flexible, and has a good sense of humour
  • You must have Maths & English to the equivalent of C at GCSE

About the Role:

As an LSA, you will:

  • Work 1:2 with two assigned pupils, providing tailored support
  • Assist in small groups of 4-6 students, creating a structured and engaging learning environment
  • Help students with SEMH & ASD navigate both mainstream classrooms and resource hub sessions
  • Work closely with the Teacher in Charge and fellow LSAs to implement individual learning plans
