Waste Collector

Location: Swindon

Pay: £13.21p/hour

Hours: Early morning starts, with some weekend or bank holiday work as needed

Contract: Full-time, temp to perm

Job Purpose:

To safely and efficiently collect domestic waste and recycling from homes across Swindon, helping to keep the environment clean and support recycling targets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect waste and recycling from up to 1,000 homes per day

• Load waste safely and correctly into collection vehicles

• Sort recyclable materials properly to avoid contamination

• Report any issues, hazards, or missed collections to your supervisor

• Complete paperwork and keep records up to date

• Support and guide new team members when required

• Maintain a polite and respectful attitude with the public

• Assist the driver while reversing and watch for safety risks

• Clear up any spillage and ensure gates are closed after collections

• Follow all health & safety procedures and wear provided PPE

• Take care of vehicles and equipment as instructed

• Be aware of surroundings at all times for the safety of others

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience working outdoors or in waste/recycling (preferred)

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills

• A good level of physical fitness (this is a hands-on, physical job)

• A positive attitude and willingness to work in all weather

• Team player who is reliable and safety-conscious

• Mostly outdoors, in all weather (rain, snow, heat)

• Early morning shifts – sometimes in the dark

• May involve working weekends or bank holidays

• Potential exposure to unpleasant or hazardous materials (PPE is provided)

• Must be alert to risks such as needles, sharp objects, or aggressive behaviour
