Job Description - Youth Justice Officer - Southampton

Youth Justice Officer
Southampton
3 months initially
Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm, 37 hrs/week
  • Aim for prevention of reoffending by children and young people
  • Engage with children who offend (aged 10 upwards) at risk of entering the formal justice system by assessing, identify, and planning critical pathways for intervention to reduce the risk of reoffending utilising ASSET +
  • Pre Court assessments including reparation and restorative justice
  • Providing sentence planning, support and post release supervision for children serving detention and training orders and other custodial sentences
  • Formulate an engagement plan by identifying interventions and ongoing referrals and sign posting to other services to support the young adult make positive life choices
  • Support the young person and to access universal, targeted and specialist provision and undertake early help interventions including family support services where appropriate
  • Support the young person’s family to access universal, universal plus and universal partnership plus level provision and provide intensive support to the whole family, supporting family members access the services they need
  • Acting as Supervising Officer and Responsible Officer in relation to court orders, using evidence-based practice
  • Court report-writing for all relevant courts
Requirements
  • Graduate or equivalent professional qualification (NVQ, Social Care, Education, Youth Work, Advice & Guidance, LDSS, Criminal Justice, Health)
  • Previous experience of working with Children & Families in a Social Work /Care/Youth/YOS or criminal justice setting
  • Knowledge of policies, statutory regulations and guidance relating to criminal justice, CPS and Court processes and procedures
  • Experience and application of ASSET+ or equivalent assessment frameworks, preferably in a criminal justice setting
  • DBS registered to the update service
