Job Description - Senior Environment Manager

Legacy Strategies are looking for an experienced Senior Environment Manager to work with our client in the Birmingham area!

Full Time | Permanent | Hybrid

Salary: £65,400 - £82,780 DOE

As Senior Environment Manager , you will be responsible for leading the Integrated Project Team (IPT), assuming that design and construction within the team is in accordance with organisational and sponsor requirements and policies (including the Environmental Minimum Requirements (EMRs)), environmental commitments, environmental law and requirements. You will be responsible for providing client delivery support to the IPT through guidance on environmental design and construction requirements and assuring that environmental issues and constraints are key considerations in project design and construction implementation.

Accountabilities

  • Technical Assurance: Lead on environmental technical assurance within the Integrated Project Team (IPT) through production, checking, and submission of assurance evidence for technical stage gates, ensuring compliance with technical and sponsor requirements, environmental commitments, environmental law, and regulations.
  • Risk-Based Assurance: Support the Head of Engineering and Environment in organising, coordinating, and undertaking the environmental element of risk-based technical assurance of the works performed and assured by the IPT.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work as part of an integrated team alongside specialists and contractors, liaising with a range of technical stakeholders, including statutory bodies, to develop appropriate and cost-effective mitigation strategies and solutions.
  • Approval Authorisations: Ensure contractor designs and construction works comply with Environmental Minimum Requirements (EMRs), emphasising General Principles and the CoCP.
  • Enquiry Management: Efficiently handle enquiries (including Freedom of Information and Engineering Information Requests) to meet statutory requirements.
  • Communication: Lead the management and communication of environmental and sustainability requirements to the IPT contractor, ensuring that environmental sustainability issues are embedded as an integral part of design and construction.
  • Design Guidance: Provide guidance to achieve high-quality integrated designs and develop appropriate and cost-effective mitigation strategies and solutions.
  • Reporting: Support the Head of Engineering and Environment with internal and external reporting of environmental matters.
  • Requirement Development: Ensure requirements are developed timely, working collaboratively with the Client and central Environment team.
  • Community Liaison: Engage with technical stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels and communicate with the local community on sensitive issues.
  • EDI Promotion: Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and support all organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures in EDI.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental standards (including BREEAM) & activity on large complex building within a complex infrastructure delivery programme
  • Chartered Environmentalist/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or the equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of  Applicable UK environmental law and other relevant construction (including Construction Design Management (CDM regulations.))
  • Complex Problem Solving: Ability to identify, review, analyse, and interpret a wide range of data, evaluate options, and implement solutions.
  • Decision Quality: Ability to gather and synthesize information, identify options, apply judgment based on logic and reason, and make informed decisions.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline-specific scientific, technical, and environmental principles, seeking further guidance from Subject Matter Experts when necessary.
  • Communication: Ability to effectively communicate discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues using examples of application.
  • Data Management: Apply principles and methods for effective information management, modelling, and data security; understand approaches and consequences of data creation, transformation, and visualization.
  • Environmental Law: Knowledge of applicable UK environmental law and relevant construction regulations, including Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
  • Regulatory Framework: Understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework relevant to the project.
  • Commercial Awareness: Understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets, and the need to deliver integrated solutions meeting all functional requirements.
  • Professional Accreditation: Chartered Environmentalist or membership of an appropriate professional institution or equivalent experience.
