Job Description - Staff Nurse

Leadership Lead by example with drive and enthusiasm, responding appropriately to the needs of patients, families and carers. Responsible for assisting with the management and leadership of the clinic, maintaining an appropriate style that promotes good morale, a team approach to work and a culture which fosters innovation and change. Sets high standards of nursing care for the clinic, including clinic cleanliness to ensure that the patients experience is excellent. Influence people and events through successful communication, negotiation and persuasion skills. Constructively challenge practices as necessary which impact on patients care and/or staff wellbeing. Work in partnership with the senior nurses to ensure the nursing strategy objectives are achieved. Supporting Patient Excellence In the absence of the Junior Sister/Sister act as a first point for patients, relatives and staff to address concerns and complaints. To be courteous and helpful to patients, families/carers, colleagues and all users to the Trust. To act as a positive role model to the team. Responsible for the assessment of the care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families/carers. Actively seek to ensure that patients, their relatives and carers engage with and understand their treatment plans. Adopt an open learning culture from clinical incidents and patient/staff feedback. Co-ordinate the patients discharge arrangements in accordance with the Trusts Local Discharge Policy. People/Management Excellence Collaborate with all team members in the clinical area to ensure efficient running of the ward. Assist the Sister with introducing new members of staff to their duties. Act as a mentor to students. Promote and maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor/coach in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staff. Support and facilitate the development of competencies across all staff levels. Maintains competent computer skills and be able to access patient details and reports via the Trusts and local IT systems. Support a culture of teamwork within the clinical area. Supporting Financial Excellence Use resources effectively in order to provide quality patient care whilst having an awareness of budgetary issues. Be aware and undertake effective and efficient use of clinical, physical and financial resources. Professional Responsibilities To be responsible for your own professional development, maintain a professional portfolio and keep up to date on current nursing and health service issues. To take full responsibility for your own actions and abide by the NMC Code of Conduct 2015. Identify own learning needs and negotiate a personal development plan, recognising own limitations. Quality Assurance and Monitoring Contribute to audit initiatives. Participate in setting and reviewing standards for practice and evaluate outcomes as part of the clinical governance agenda. Report indecencies using the Trust reporting system.
