Job Description - Head of Education and Learning

Are you passionate about education, training, and organisational development? Join our team as an Education and Learning Lead!




In this role, you'll play a crucial part in shaping our Education Strategy and supporting our workforce plans to achieve our Trust's Caring Together Strategy. Main duties of the job You will support the AD Education, Learning and Organisation Development (ELOD) in providing strategic direction, implementation and monitoring of education, training, learning and development to deliver the Trust's Education Strategy and both the external and internalworkforce plans to help deliver the Trust's Caring Together Strategy.




You will be the operational lead of four teams (CPD, Apprenticeship and work experience, Clinical skills, Mandatory training and learning hub), specific projects and areas of work, sometimes at an ICS level (e.g. apprenticeships and work experience).




You will also provide operational oversight and manage the planning and delivery of learning, education and development including mandatory training, induction and clinical skills. About us Sheffield Children's is one of three independent, specialist paediatric hospitals in the country, providing dedicated healthcare for children and young people across community, mental health and acute specialist settings.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential

  • Educated to Masters level, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Professional Training and/or Facilitation Qualification
  • Demonstration of Continuing Professional Development e.g. development programme design and delivery, diagnostic processes, coaching
  • Qualified clinical professional
Experience Essential

  • Comprehensive and in-depth experience in a busy learning and education function, with recent, relevant experience of providing a customer focussed L& D service and giving advice to managers on L& D issues including all aspects of employee development.
  • Experience of working at a senior level within an Education and Learning environment in a large and complex organisation.
  • Experience of working in partnership with managers and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading improvement projects that have had impact across a number of teams/ disciplines
Desirable

  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of working with apprenticeships at an organisational level
  • Budget management experience
Knowledge and Skills Essential

  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of current, relevant employee development initiatives and issues.
  • Good understanding of NHSE education provision and structures and the HEI sector
  • Clear understanding of the apprenticeship levy and how apprenticeships are created and delivered.
  • Strong understanding of learning principles, design methodologies and learning technologies
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate organisational goals into actionable learning and development strategies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to motivate others and foster teamwork within diverse settings.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making abilities to address complex challenges.
  • Financial acumen, including the ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate budgets effectively
  • Strong people and project management skills
  • Excellent team worker, flexible and reliable
Desirable

  • Previous experience of using a learning management system
  • Detailed knowledge on career pathways for nurses and AHPs
  • Experience of working with and leading on Service improvement projects and methodologies (e.g. micro-systems etc).
Personal Attributes Essential

  • Dedication to providing proactive, high-quality, customer focused service
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, with a proven ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues
  • Approachable and flexibility to adapt to changing work demands
  • Ability to understand, interpret and articulate complex issues verbally and in writing

  • Advice and guidance experience / qualification
  • Coaching or mentoring skills
  • Ability to handle highly contentious/sensitive situations
