As part of an ongoing programme to drive a quality agenda and deliver a first class Diagnostic Imaging service, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Imaging Matron in our Interventional Radiology (IR) & Diagnostic Imaging Services, working across all three Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust sites.

We are seeking a high performing nurse, committed to the delivery of excellent standards of patient care and experience, through effectiveness and innovation at the UK’s first Academic Health Science Centre, and one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country, comprising the hospitals of Charing Cross, St Mary’s, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s and the Western Eye.

We expect our Quality Matron to drive and support innovation in nursing care and patient pathways across areas, and through working with multidisciplinary teams and non-clinical staff. In Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, innovation is continuous, with new care pathways needed to support developments in technology and techniques.

This is a key nursing role carrying a high level of responsibility and workload, but with great opportunity. You will need experience of working at managerial level, with demonstrable outcomes in the areas of advancing nursing practices and in improving patient experience and patient care.

The successful post holder joins a significantly expanded and still growing team, where existing day services will shortly be enhanced with some 24/7 delivery. This role has a unique opportunity to help transform our Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging Services and contribute to innovative projects currently underway.

This role is pivotal in leading quality initiatives in Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging services, working closely with the Chief of Service, Divisional Director of Nursing, Head of Nursing, Senior Lead Nurse, Clinical Service Managers and General Manager.

Main duties of the job

  • This role provides key strategic oversight for imaging and radiology. The post holder will oversee the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers.
  • The post holder will have continuous responsibility for interventional radiology, providing visible professional leadership and line management for teams of nursing and support staff and ensuring budgets and resources are managed efficiently and effectively.
  • The post holder is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment, supporting the department managers in quality improvement projects and participating in taking forward the directorates quality and safety agenda.
  • The role combines clinical expertise and leadership skills with managerial, educational and professional responsibilities, liaising with the multi professional team to optimise patient care and the patient experience.

Person specification

  • Registered Nurse (level 1)
  • Educated to diploma/degree level or equivalent experience
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

Experience

  • Budget management
  • Leading and developing a team at a senior nurse level in gynaecology, oncology or a surgical speciality
  • Significant experience at senior nurse level within speciality
  • Project Management

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

  • Current issues in healthcare/specialty
  • IT Skills
