Job Description - Lead Healthcare Scientist

Career Grade/Lead Clinical Scientist (Band 8a) - 317 NMPCE - FH Diag Rad Protection - The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – Tyne and Wear We are seeking to recruit two highly motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Scientists with knowledge and experience in diagnostic radiology physics to join our expanding team of clinical scientists and technologists. You will work within one of the largest regional medical physics services in the UK, where you will be appointed as a diagnostic radiology medical physics expert to one or more organisations and play a lead role in the development and delivery of diagnostic radiology physics services to a wide range of NHS Trusts and private customers across the north of England. As part of our large and friendly team you will be supported to further develop your skills and interests and participate in the research activity of the department plus a structured HSS equivalence programme which is currently under local development. • You will be redirected to Trac to apply for the vacancy. You will provide expert scientific advice and assistance to clinical users of diagnostic radiology X-ray systems including writing and reviewing scientific and technical reports on equipment performance. You will be appointed as a diagnostic radiology medical physics expert to one or more hospitals and also contribute to the department’s extensive teaching programme which includes delivery of the educational component of the Newcastle Modernising Scientific Careers Scientific Training Programme in Medical Physics. Depending on individual interests there will be opportunity to be involved in the wider work of the department including radiation safety and non-ionising radiation physics. Applicants should have a degree in physics, or other appropriate subject, plus an appropriate post-graduate degree at master’s level, or equivalent level of specialist knowledge and experience. Applicants should be registered as a clinical scientist and have experience as a diagnostic radiology medical physics expert (MPE) or be in a position to apply for certification as an MPE within 6 months of appointment. Applicants who have appropriate experience but are some way from being able to apply for MPE certification, may be appointable at Band 7 pending certification.
