Job Description - IT Service Manager

VIRTUS Data Centres is the UK’s fastest growing data centre provider which owns, designs, builds and operates the country’s most efficient and flexible data centres.

In May 2023 we announced our plans to expand into continental Europe, with our first data centre due to open in Berlin in 2026, to be quickly followed by two full campuses and expansion into other countries in the pipeline.

Job Summary

As IT Service Manager at VIRTUS, you will be responsible for supporting and driving the IT Infrastructure Strategy. This involves ensuring efficient operation of VIRTUS through the delivery of integrated workflow tools and infrastructure. You will also help define and implement a strategic IT roadmap for managing IT Risk, Incidents, and Changes, collaborating with teams across multiple sites to align IT solutions with VIRTUS’ business goals.

IT Service Manager - Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and implement the overall IT Strategy for VIRTUS
  • Own and represent all aspects of the IT and be recognized as a driving force for customer excellence.
  • Join and contribute to the IT Leadership Team and work closely with peers who are responsible for OT
  • Understand and own all aspects of IT infrastructure that run the Data Centre (Network, Cloud services, Office systems and applications)
  • Ensure that all IT hardware and systems always have appropriate support structure and lifecycle management
  • Understand and own cyber security aspects for the IT business, points of entry, and prevention tactics
  • Own the delivery of the Security Operating Centre service
  • Manage the support contract with our IT Supply Partner to ensure
  • Innovate - Engage in new technologies and how we use them to maximise business efficiency
  • Knowledge and understanding of all auditable aspects of the Business
  • Ensure all aspects of IT within Data Centres are in place for both new and existing data centres to include - office areas, network infrastructure, server infrastructure, cloud services
  • Drive standards of documentation to ensure full understanding of the infrastructure to enable troubleshooting.
  • Financial responsibility to raise and control all Purchase Orders and associated financial items to ensure
  • Analyse and mitigate single points of failure in the IT Infrastructure
  • Be a point of escalation and represent IT to the business by
  • Inducting new employees and guiding through the IT landscape
  • Coaching in IT best practices
  • Demonstrating efficient use of Technology to enhance user's experience

Person Specification

Essential

  • An experienced IT manager with a knowledge of all aspects of IT Architecture
  • Knowledge and experience of Cyber security is essential and how it would be applied to all aspects of the infrastructure.
  • You must have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to articulate complex IT problems in a clear and methodical way
  • Experience dealing with difficult and multi-faceted problems
  • Able to interface with Users and IT suppliers alike to bring excellence to the team
  • A self-motivated individual who is resourceful, with the ability to build working relationships quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to influence and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Pro-active, responsive - able to prioritise and deal with intense moments of high activity using excellent analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity, bringing clarity and control in a growing and dynamic environment.
  • Experience working within a team, sharing knowledge, ideas and a passion for continuous improvement.

Desirable

  • Ideally educated to degree or equivalent standard, with membership of a recognised relevant professional body, and certification or qualifications from a relevant industry body
  • Relevant experience within a Data centre or critical environment.

Important Additional Information

Inline with VIRTUS’ Vetting Policy, the successful applicant must be willing to undergo a BS7858 screening process.

This is a hybrid role, with regular travel to data centres based around London, and occasional travel into central London required.

This role comes with an on-call element, which will require the post holder to participate in an out-of-hours on-call escalation rota.
