Job Description - Specialist Nurse Lead for TB


· The post holder is cross site and responsible for providing a seamless, multi-professional, specialist Tuberculosis (TB) service for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, West Middlesex, Royal Brompton Hospital, Royal Marsden Hospital (Fulham road site), Kensington and Chelsea and part of South Westminster Borough that continually improves the standard of patient care. This is achieved through clinical practice, education, research and audit activities, acting as the professional TB lead at corporate and directorate level and for clinical governance purposes. · The post holder will be working alongside other clinical colleagues to provide expert individualised care, treatment and support for this patient group and their families/carers independently in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team in line with local and national targets. They will play a lead key role within this team in order to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated and timely approach to care. · The post holder will promote excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a specialist resource/role model and commit to nursing research and audit.They will evaluate through quality assurance initiatives and assessment of clinical outcomes. · The post holder will ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence with an awareness of local and national TB policies and guidelines. They will provide specialist clinical leadership within this area of TB care and will lead and develop specialist education cross site. · The post holder will act as a specialist role model in TB and case manage a cohort of patients (including children) and their families/carers and undertake nurse led clinics. They will also manage adults with both TB and the Human immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). We have two main acute hospital sites—Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, plus our award-winning clinics across North West London and beyond. · We employ over 7,000 staff and 500 volunteers · We treat someone in A&E every 90 seconds · We deliver a baby every 50 minutes · We operate on a patient every 16 minutes · We do 50 imaging procedures each hour · We serve a diverse population of 1.5 million from the beginning to the end of life · To provide professional leadership and management to nursing staff cross site. · Liaise with Public Health England with regard the epidemiology of Tuberculosis and the management of specific cases. · To act as a role model in promoting equality of opportunity among staff in line with the Trust’s Equality and Diversity Policy as well as conducting equality impact assessments on policy and/or service changes. · To ensure local TB policies/protocols and guidelines are developed and reviewed to reflect best practice and that staff are informed of changes and work within these. · To lead the review and re-design of patient pathways and services to ensure that these meet the changing needs of patients while optimising resources. · The nurse has responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with TB throughout the trust and the community; and the development, implementation and evaluation of treatment, educational and health promotion programs to control the spread of TB.
