Job Description - Control Systems Engineer

Amazon is seeking an experienced,hands-on and customer obsessed Control System Engineer to driveimprovements and standardization across our Last Mile deliverynetwork. As a member of the EU Amazon Logistics Engineering team,you will be responsible for driving WW standardization efforts,whilst also supporting in-country Project Engineers with thenecessary analytical insights to optimize operational processes onan ongoing basis. You will scope and lead design and improvementprograms under an EU umbrella, driving benefit over safety, qualityand cost-based metrics. This position requirescustomer focus, self-motivation and project management skills tolead and support large, complex cross-functional Engineeringprojects. This role involves pan-EUtravel Base location is flexible between thebelowoptions:
London-Milan-Paris-Rome-Berlin-Madrid-Barcelona. Keyjob responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
-Invent, design, and implement engineering solutions to complexmaterial flow/transformation and human/machine efficiency problemsthroughout the Last Mile sortation processes, to generate highquality, cost-effective solutions
- Lead and coordinatedesign development efforts for optimal solutions for the Last Milenetwork through equipment specification, material flow, processdesign, firm engineering, ergonomics, associate experience,operational considerations and Delivery Station layoutinterferences
- Develop and continuously improvetechnical and design specifications for automated and non-automatedMaterial Handling Equipment in the Amazon Last MileNetwork
- Initiate and partially lead Kaizenevents
- Review and sign-off ownership for specificationand design deviations and change requests on globallevel
- Review and sign-off of supplier or integratorsolution proposals for automated and non-automated sortationsolutions
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement andinnovation across the global AMZL EngineeringOrganization
- Evaluate technical and design issues andvalidate implications from or to standards
- Hostingbusiness reviews with senior leadership and present results ofabove-mentioned standard definitions and benchmarks
-Present concepts, designs, program updates and roadmap to seniorleadership on a frequent basis

Your day could include engagement with all levels ofthe organization and multiple stakeholder groups to drive short,mid and long term decisions that have impact on a large scaleacross the AMZL network. You would be working with external vendorsand partners from Operations, Process Improvement, Health andSafety, Ergonomics, Finance, Procurement to design and developstandardized material handling equipment (MHE) and automationsolutions (MLA) that can be deployed in AMZL Delivery Stations. Youwill write and update the specifications of the above technologiesand support deployment from the tender phase throughout the firmengineering to validate and freeze vendor's design till executionof Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT).Further, you will be empowered to propose and drive continuousimprovements initiatives focusing on performance, quality,ergonomics, usability and reliability of all the deployedtechnologies. You will work at design level, benchmarking solutionsfrom different integrators to identify design bestpractices. About the team
Ourmission is to standardize and improve engineering solutions,providing our customers with safe, scalable and reliabletechnologies. Holistically, the AMZL EU Engineering Excellence Teamis responsible for two major fields: drive technical improvementprojects that will improve safety, associate experience,performance by optimal costs and ensure technical standardizationwith special focus on automation. The team partners with severalstakeholders inside and outside of Engineering around the globe towork towards WW standards. Also, the team support technicalassessment of integrators, perform audits, and provideperformance/quality data to support the strategicdecision-making. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor'sdegree in Engineering
- Technical background in relevantfields of automated or non-automated Material HandlingEquipment
- Demonstrated experience in a similar projector program management role
- Experience in LeanManagement, Six Sigma and other operations engineertools
- Experience in writing technical assessmentdocuments on MHE equipment orautomation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -MBA, MSc or Meng (Engineering, Automation, Robotics orequivalent)
- Experience in developing PLC code / machinecontrols
- Experiences with benchmarking technicalequipment and metrics
- Experience with financial andstatistical modelling
- 6-Sigma Black Belts would be aplus
- Advanced data analysis skills and experienced inusing supporting tools e.g. Minitab, JMP, MS Excel, MS Access orequivalent
