Job Description - Enterprise Architect

Do you want to be a valued part of the critical infrastructure that serves communities across Europe and beyond? Are you looking for a position in which you can set direction and help shape our company? If so, then you could be the newest addition to our team as Enterprise Architect for Ferry and Terminal Operational Efficiency.

Be part of the movement - and play your part.

About the role

In our new 2030 digitalisation strategy, we have identified various areas with a large potential for improvement utilising concepts like digital twinning and machine learning. As Enterprise Architect, you are the key to transforming our architecture in Ferry & Terminal Operations to support this strategy.

As enterprise architect for operational efficiency, you will join the Ferry & Terminals
Tribe with around 70 colleagues. You will report to the Head of Architecture and be part of a team of highly skilled architects covering enterprise, cloud, and security architecture across all DFDS.

In the tribe, you will work closely with the Lead Enterprise Architect for Ferry & Terminals to identify and define the required evolution of our technology landscape. Your primary stakeholders include product owners, the Tribe Lead and senior business decision makers.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Mapping the current landscape of our Ferry & Terminal operations, with focus on technology support and opportunities for capability-evolution.
  • Setting the strategic direction of our application landscape, together with the enterprise architect for Ferry & Terminals.
  • Enabling product owners and build teams to take informed decisions regarding architecture.
  • Advice on build vs. buy decisions and support in market screening.
  • Ensure that architecture decisions are documented, and solutions align with the strategy and reference architecture in DFDS.

About you

To succeed in this role, you must have a good understanding of how architecture impacts the ability to create effectful solutions that provide value for the business. You can translate strategy into actionable tactics and identify opportunities for synergies across the business.

You enable people to take ownership of architecture decisions by helping them understand the consequences of decisions and how the impact maps to our long-term strategy.

You are equally comfortable in front of a whiteboard with developers as in front of a slide-deck towards senior business stakeholders.

The ideal person for this position will have the following qualifications:

  • Active practitioner of Domain Driven Design.
  • Deep understanding of the entire software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to distil and communicate complex information to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Distributed systems, API design and event driven architecture is part of your DNA.
  • Solid experience working with modelling languages and diagram standards such as ArchiMate, C4 and Bounded Context Maps.
  • Experience from shipping, freight, logistics, or supply chain management is a plus.

We think the strongest teams are built on diversity and inclusivity. Contrasting opinions, varied skills and strong characters bring out the best in us all. And we cannot wait for you to join.

Working at DFDS

Join the movement and grow with us.

Collaboration, knowledge sharing, and individual development are core values within the architecture team you’ll be part of at DFDS.

We promote a great workplace with a diverse and vibrant community and a healthy work/life balance with flexible work arrangements. While you are with us, we want you to develop and move yourself on. At DFDS, we believe that development happens first and foremost through activities in the workplace, and if needed we will also offer training courses that can directly support you in your role.
