A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Programme Manager to work with in our iiCON portfolio. iiCON is a consortium led by Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), with partners Unilever, Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust, University of Liverpool, Evotec, Infex Therapeutics and LifeArc. iiCON brings together industry, academia, and the NHS in a concerted effort to save lives globally by accelerating the discovery and development of new treatments, diagnostics, vaccines, and preventative products for infectious diseases.

The consortium was established in 2020 after being awarded a £18.6 million UKRI Strength in Places project. This project’s key performance indicators include targets to measure the investment the project has helped leverage and the direct and indirect jobs it has created. The iiCON consortium has thus far helped leverage over £200 million from public and private sources, and the Programme Manager will manage specific projects within this portfolio.

What is the role?

You will be the primary programme manager for a range of complex projects within the portfolio, responsible for leading the project management of a portfolio ranging from approximately £100k-£3 million in value. Within this role, your key responsibilities will be operational programme delivery, programme reporting and partner engagement.

Key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Generate and maintain Gantt charts, monitor progress against agreed timelines and milestones.
  • Develop Data Protection Impact Assessments and Data Management Plans together with the projects’ implementing teams and LSTM’s Data Protection Officer.
  • Develop and manage project risk registers and safeguarding risk assessments in liaison with the project implementing team.
  • Develop and implement Quality Control procedures to ensure programme activities are in line with iiCON team and funder requirements.
  • Assist the technical team in planning experimental work and associated logistics, including field work in multiple locations.
  • Provide training to iiCON related staff on iiCON programme specific activities and processes.
  • Work with technical leads to draft technical reports and Research Management Services to produce financial reports, ensuring the format is aligned with funder requirements.
  • Track and maintain project activity in a format that complies with reporting requirements for multiple funders.
  • Monitor, forecast and manage the project budgets in liaison with the RMS project lead. Attend and support project steering groups, quarterly and annual programme monitoring activities.
  • Provide verbal highlight reports on assigned projects in 1:1s with the SPM, in programme and core team meetings.
  • Support the Business Development Managers to develop technical presentations for internal and external stakeholders and funders.
  • Partner Engagement:
  • Actively engage with the iiCON consortium partners, project partners and funders
  • Support project delivery in the UK, Asia and Africa through meetings and engaging with the project partners in country.
  • Build and strengthen external relationships for new project opportunities and reporting ofcurrent activities.
  • Support LSTM/iiCON project team members and external partners to develop competitive funding applications.
  • Support the iiCON Communications Manager to generate content to support production of the annual reports and other publicity material for the assigned projects.

Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working as a Programme Manager with large complex projects
  • Experience managing multiple ongoing projects in a portfolio
  • Experience in budget management (budget preparation and reconciliation)
  • Ability to write reports, including data analysis
