Job Description - Facilities Engineer

Petroplan are currently working with a leading Operator searching for a Senior Facilities Engineer, working on a 4x4 Rotation in West Africa. Description: Job Purpose:

  • To provide support of existing operations and brownfield projects, the correct technical guidance, systems of work and controls that ensure the ongoing fitness for purpose of all facilities systems in accordance with good industry practice and in compliance with all legislative and/or regulatory requirements.
  • To ensure appropriate specification, design, manufacture, installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of new or changed instrumentation, control and process safety systems and equipment.
  • To act as a mentor figure (for technical excellence, development guidance and exemplary professional behaviours) to less-experienced national engineers.
  • To provide technical support to incumbent lead during periods when Engineering Manager is on leave.
Responsibilities / Key Objectives:

  • Technical Expertise for the design, specification, manufacture, installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of new or modified mechanical / piping systems and equipment.
  • Ensures Performance Standards for Safety Critical Elements related to all facilities safety systems and equipment are adhered to.
  • Participate in or lead internal technical audits, take part in incident investigations, pro-actively engages in survey, assessment, or analysis of any technical situation in the field.
  • Provides technical input on both contractor & consultant selection and manages specialist external consultant or contractor support where applicable.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZID and HAZOP studies, process facilities safety systems design and operation reviews.
  • Provide input to operational requirements including: Surveillance tools and health check requirements for facilities systems.
  • Advises field operation and maintenance organizations on troubleshooting across the Business Unit's Operational facilities.
  • Mentor less-experienced National engineers in all areas of technical excellence, engineering methods and business practices, developmental guidance and professional behaviours.
Education:
Degree-qualified Engineer (chemical, mechanical or similar relevant engineering discipline), preferably chartered. Skills:

  • 15 years broad experience in process / facilities engineering within a suitable arena, including significant oil & gas Production Operations experience, and some Project Execution.
  • Significant experience on FPSOs and brownfield modifications.
  • Mastery of the full range of process, utility and safety systems and facilities equipment typically found on FPSOs.
  • Proficiency in systems troubleshooting and live equipment performance monitoring.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively / with authority on technical engineering matters. Must have experience in communicating with senior management.
  • Working knowledge of all relevant engineering document and drawing types, and 'engineering office' document control practices.
  • Familiar with relevant local and international engineering codes, standards and practices.
  • Expert use of 'standard' office tools (word processors, spreadsheets, slide packs, time management etc) and good working knowledge of typical process engineering / surveillance software tools (HYSYS, Pipesim/Maximus, PI Vision).
  • Must have previous experience in overseas position within culturally diverse organization.
  • Ability to travel to onshore and offshore sites as required
