Head of Manufacturing Engineering
Location: Barrow (Cumbria) / North of England / Hybrid – We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Establish and manage the manufacturing system, ensuring the application of Industry 4.0 principles, and enabling the execution of manufacturing operations in line with the Integrated Business Plan
- Establish and deliver the strategy to grow the manufacturing engineering team and capability to deliver the vision; engaging with suitable industrial organisations, such as High Value Manufacturing Catapult and The Welding Institute
- Champion, develop and deploy new manufacturing technologies, systems and processes to improve efficiency and reduce cost across the suite of WSUK products and services
- Responsible for influencing an achievable engineering solution, through Design for Manufacture and assembly analysis, to ensure the product(s) can be manufactured to the project requirements with the following responsibilities
- Responsible for supporting the Operations function manufacture the products, through build line support and collaboration
- Organise and control any relevant manufacturing systems and processes documentation to support build across different sites and facilities
Educated to degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline with demonstrated proven experience in a manufacturing and engineering business environment
Member of a recognised professional Engineering institute
Requires understanding of Manufacturing Technology, and Digital Manufacturing processes; their development and deployment
The Manufacturing Engineering Team:
An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Head of Manufacturing Engineering within Weapons Systems UK, based in the North of England. As Head of Manufacturing Engineering, you will be the driving force in delivering on the plan to re-establish the manufacturing capability of artillery systems within the UK. As part of BAE Systems Platforms and Services sector, Weapon Systems (UK) designs, develops, manufactures, and supports artillery systems, naval guns, and provides engineering capability to the wider BAE Systems business. We are looking for innovation, commitment and drive to help define the future of Weapon Systems capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and the credibility to gain the confidence of the Engineering, Manufacturing and Procurement senior management teams, therefore influence and direct decision making at all levels. The role will be based in the North of England, supporting multiple sites, including Barrow, and with some overseas travel.
