Job Description - 2nd Line Support Engineer

2nd Line IT Engineer

Our client is a leading, UK-wide technology services provider with an excellent reputation in the fire, security, and integrated systems space. With a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation, they offer a collaborative working culture and opportunities to work across a diverse range of systems and networks.

What will you be doing?
Joining as a 2nd Line IT Engineer, you'll provide advanced technical support for escalated issues across a multi-site network. You'll troubleshoot hardware and software problems, support infrastructure upgrades, mentor 1st line support, and maintain system performance across servers, applications, and networks.

What will you need?

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in IT support, ideally in a second-line role
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, including Azure AD
  • Solid understanding of core networking protocols - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and VLANs
  • Practical knowledge of Cisco Meraki for switches, firewalls, and wireless networks
  • Familiarity with virtualisation technologies, especially Hyper-V
  • Confident using ITSM tools (such as Atera or Jamf) to manage and resolve support tickets
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, customer-focused attitude
  • Full UK driving license with flexibility to travel to other UK sites when needed

What would be desirable?

  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified)
  • Exposure to SimPro
  • Previous experience mentoring or training junior IT staff
