Job Description - 3rd Line Service Desk Engineer - MSP

Job Title: 3rd Line Service Desk Engineer

Location: West Yorkshire - Office based with some occasional client visit when required

Overview

We are a progressive IT Managed Service Provider based in West Yorkshire seeking a 3rd Line Engineer to join our growing technical team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled and motivated engineer with a experience in infrastructure, virtualization, networking, and cloud technologies.

You’ll be responsible for managing escalated incidents, delivering some projects, and maintaining the IT estate across over 300 client networks. This is a key technical role requiring deep expertise across a range of technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality 3rd line support for complex technical incidents escalated from the service desk.
  • Deliver and support various infrastructure-related projects.
  • Independently manage and deliver small-scale projects.
  • Monitor, maintain, and enhance the infrastructure environments of multiple clients (300+ networks).

Essential Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Windows Server (2008-2022/2025)
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Active Directory Services
  • Microsoft Office 365 (including SharePoint, Intune, and Entra)
  • Microsoft Desktop OS (Windows 10/11)
  • Terminal Services / Remote Desktop Services (RDS)

Virtualization & Cloud

  • Hyper-V
  • Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop
  • Virtualization and virtual machine management
  • Cloud platforms:
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Networking & Security

  • Networking fundamentals: IP, WANs, LANs
  • VLAN configuration and management
  • Routing and switching
  • Firewall configuration and troubleshooting
  • Network security best practices

Storage & Scripting

  • SAN/Storage management
  • RAID configuration (RAID1, RAID5, RAID10, RAID50, etc.)
  • PowerShell scripting for automation and administrative tasks

Attributes

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Passion for learning and staying up to date with emerging technologies
