Accountant

Are you a skilled and proactive accountant looking for a varied role across a group of dynamic businesses?
We are recruiting a Financial Accountant on behalf of our client - an established group operating in retail, logistics, and distribution. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of key finance processes across multiple entities in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.

As Financial Accountant, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Financial Controller and ensuring the smooth operation of the finance function across three businesses.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing the purchase ledger, including data entry into SAGE and bank reconciliation spreadsheets

• Handling weekly supplier payment runs and foreign exchange payments via platforms such as TransferWise and Equals Money

• Inputting invoices into Sigma and Moveware systems

• Reconciling petty cash and analysing credit card transactions

• Processing weekly timesheets and managing monthly payroll

• Reconciling Caxton card loads and employee trip expenses

• Handling contra entries and intercompany recharges and reconciliations

• Preparing monthly management accounts and completing month-end processes

• Generating monthly sales reports and profitability reports

• Preparing and submitting VAT returns, including monitoring VAT deferments

• Processing purchase orders for the packaging department

• Supervising a Purchase Ledger Assistant

• Posting accruals, prepayments, and nominal journals

• Ensuring a smooth and timely flow of invoices and payments

• Supporting the Financial Controller with ad hoc tasks and reporting

? Solid experience in a financial or management accounting role
? Proficient in SAGE and strong working knowledge of Excel
? Experience in multi-entity or intercompany accounting
? Good understanding of VAT and payroll processes
? Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines
? Clear and confident communication skills
? Familiarity with Sigma and Moveware is an advantage (training provided if needed)
? Supervisory experience is beneficial
